Adult Learning

Jewish learning is a lifelong process—the more you know, the more you realize you have yet to learn. As you delve into Jewish history, thought, and ethics, you're bound to be intrigued by concepts and insights that lead you farther down the path of discovery. Along the way, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your personal connection to Judaism, as well as an appreciation for Judaism's sage perceptions about the human condition.

Hebrew College, with its partner CJP’s Commission on Jewish Life and Leadership, offers many points of entry along the path of lifelong Jewish learning:

Me’ah

Exploring core Jewish texts, Me’ah grapples with concepts representing cultural and political movements from four historical periods—biblical, rabbinic, medieval and modern.  The high caliber of instruction—equivalent to a university-level course—makes Me'ah the most unique Jewish adult learning program in the country. Instructors are accomplished scholars with advanced degrees. They are skilled educators of adults, able to employ their strengths and adapt their approaches both to the Me'ah curriculum and to a range of learning styles.  Me’ah (Hebrew for 100) is a two-year program comprised of 100 in-class hours. Participants hail from all backgrounds.  Me’ah addresses questions on an adult level and in meaningful ways, regardless of whether one has had prior Jewish education.

Parenting Through a Jewish Lens

Parenting Through a Jewish Lens is comprised of ten class sessions, held in the mornings (with free on-site babysitting) or evenings, and an extracurricular activity. It is offered at locations throughout Greater Boston.  Its outstanding instructors understand the interests and concerns of parents, and are adept at facilitating meaningful discussions.  These often don't end when the ninety-minute class is up. In the words of one participant, "I learn, I think, I go home and discuss with my husband.  The texts afford a new lens through which to view and understand Jewish values and learning, and how these apply to our lives." Participants hail from all backgrounds, and include interfaith couples and single parents.

Parenting Your Teen…Through a Jewish Lens

The practical and emotional challenges of raising a teen in today's world often seem overwhelming.  This inspiring eight-session program enables parents to address these challenges with an expert facilitator.  Both ancient and contemporary sources of wisdom furnish deep insights, helping parents to appreciate the uniqueness of their teen and to constructively identify and, if necessary, reframe their dreams.  In the words of one participant, “I am bolstered in rearing teens; the program helped me formulate a clearer picture of the values I hold dear, as well as how I can more effectively communicate and teach them.” Participants hail from all backgrounds, and include interfaith couples and single parents.

Eser: Top Ten Jewish Innovations

Young Adult Learning Series

This six session Young Adult Learning Series provides answers to questions about Jewish life and ideas.  Designed for those in their 20s and 30s, the program features dynamic leaders, small group discussion, and inspiring Shabbat experiences.  As they explore particular “Top Ten” themes (that vary by year), young adults deepen their knowledge and expand their community.  This program, facilitated by dynamic young rabbis, meets at convenient Boston locations, in comfortable (living room) settings.
